Bunting is not a set of flags, it is a tape with flags sewn into it, and the two numbers that matter are the spacing between flags and the total length. Spacing decides how it reads from a distance; length decides whether it reaches.

We sew into a continuous binding tape rather than tying flags to a cord. A tied string sags unevenly, twists and drops flags; a sewn tape hangs in a consistent line and takes tension along the tape rather than through the fabric.
